How does a tree “see”?
Coming to a new city, my eyes always search for the trees that inhabit it. There is something captivating about the silent presence of plants in a heavily urban area. They are always there, witnessing and archiving their surroundings, but their memory works without narrative. The Dąb Fabrykant is a 180-year old oak and a symbol of Łódź. It’s being protected and cared for, as if it was an honorary citizen. By preserving him, we also preserve an archive of memories. This project is a speculative attempt to translate Dąb Fabrykant’s holistic and metaphysical experience of time and life into images that combine new and archival photographs.
